She used this quiet moment to collect her thoughts. The room itself was sterile. The decoration minimal. She sat down at the table with no decoration and tried to will her heart to beat again.

Stephanie Rogers knew it was crazy. But when she got Bucky's killed in action letter, she couldn't stay home anymore. She had to go. She signed up with her maiden name so as not to be put far away from Bucky, trained, even participated in Erskine's super soldier program: "Man is lucky to have someone like you," the good doctor said.

She found her guy, dazed and murmuring, and busted him out of that hellhole. After all the red tape had been gone through, she found a moment alone with him and they reunited as husband and wife. She stayed in Europe to fight alongside him, to lead the men into battle. And under the starlight, caked in mud and in trenches, she found that she'd rather be no where else.

Agent Martin Carter had been supportive through this entire episode, becoming a close friend and confidant for Steph. Captain America. She often laughed at the name and her boys assured her it was apt.

But then came the day when they were chasing Zola. And Bucky...it was still hard to think of that time. When Carter found her trying to get drunk (and not succeeding), she broke down. She wanted to wait after this mission to tell Bucky that they were gonna need to build a crib soon. The Englishman held her as she cried, vowing quietly that he would be honored to step in as a father figure and support her any way he could.

But as things often went, Steph's plans never remain the same. The plane was headed for New York. She had to put it in the ice. To save everyone else. She had to. Steph shut her eyes and placed a hand on her stomach. "I'm sorry, baby," she whispered as the coldness sunk in. "Guess you'll meet daddy in Heaven."

When she woke up, the first question she asked was, "Where's the baby?" At first, the agents were confused until they were shooed away by Agent Coulson and Director Fury. Coulson gave her a soft smile and held a pink bundle in his arms and Steph felt herself tearing up.

"Congratulations, captain. She's a beautiful, healthy baby girl." He handed her the bundle and she held the babe gently. Fury told her that she'd been asleep for 70 years. The suspension slowed down the baby's developmental progress. Each decade, apparently, was a month of gestation or something. Steph didn't pay too much attention, just held and cuddled her baby girl. Still. The tears came.

"I'm so sorry, baby," she whispered. "Daddy's gonna be waiting for us a little longer than we thought."

"We still need a name, captain." She looked up at Coulson.

"Rebecca. Rebecca Winifred Barnes."
