Out of time

She was getting scared. She was supposed to be back at the orphanage hours ago but a weird thunderstorm kicked up. Lightning streaked across the sky as the eight year old girl tried to make a run for it. Rain hadn't come down yet. But the winds were blowing every which way and she heard the rumble. She really hoped she made it back home before it really began to pour.

She knew from the tone of his voice that Tony didn't have a lot of friends. Or even any friends. "Surely, you have a Bucky back home."

"Not really. People just kind of put up with me. I'm not like you, I don't have social skills like this."

"Everybody has a best friend," she insisted.

"I don't think Bucky would like that. At all. He hates me."

"He'll be fine. And you're not nobody."

"Why does Bucky hate me so much?" Tony asked, genuinely confused. "I haven't done anything... for once."

"Ever since mom died, he thinks he needs to take care of me," she answered quietly. "I think he misses his sister too."

"Had. They took her away because his mom and dad left."

"Who took her and... where is she now?"

"He don't know where she is. The agents took her."

"Child protective services. They said Bucky couldn't take care of his sister..."
