An AU of an AU

She used this quiet moment to collect her thoughts. The room itself was sterile. The decoration minimal. She sat down at the table with no decoration and tried to will her heart to beat again.

Stephanie Rogers knew it was crazy. But when she got Bucky's killed in action letter, she couldn't stay home anymore. She had to go. She signed up with her maiden name so as not to be put far away from Bucky, trained, even participated in Erskine's super soldier program: "Man is lucky to have someone like you," the good doctor said.

She found her guy, dazed and murmuring, and busted him out of that hellhole. After all the red tape had been gone through, she found a moment alone with him and they reunited as husband and wife. She stayed in Europe to fight alongside him, to lead the men into battle. And under the starlight, caked in mud and in trenches, she found that she'd rather be no where else.

Agent Martin Carter had been supportive through this entire episode, becoming a close friend and confidant for Steph. Captain America. She often laughed at the name and her boys assured her it was apt.

But then came the day when they were chasing Zola. And Bucky...it was still hard to think of that time. When Carter found her trying to get drunk (and not succeeding), she broke down. She wanted to wait after this mission to tell Bucky that they were gonna need to build a crib soon. The Englishman held her as she cried, vowing quietly that he would be honored to step in as a father figure and support her any way he could.

But as things often went, Steph's plans never remain the same. The plane was headed for New York. She had to put it in the ice. To save everyone else. She had to. Steph shut her eyes and placed a hand on her stomach. "I'm sorry, baby," she whispered as the coldness sunk in. "Guess you'll meet daddy in Heaven."

When she woke up, the first question she asked was, "Where's the baby?" At first, the agents were confused until they were shooed away by Agent Coulson and Director Fury. Coulson gave her a soft smile and held a pink bundle in his arms and Steph felt herself tearing up.

"Congratulations, captain. She's a beautiful, healthy baby girl." He handed her the bundle and she held the babe gently. Fury told her that she'd been asleep for 70 years. The suspension slowed down the baby's developmental progress. Each decade, apparently, was a month of gestation or something. Steph didn't pay too much attention, just held and cuddled her baby girl. Still. The tears came.

"I'm so sorry, baby," she whispered. "Daddy's gonna be waiting for us a little longer than we thought."

"We still need a name, captain." She looked up at Coulson.

"Rebecca. Rebecca Winifred Barnes."

[ooc: I should be sleeping and I'm going to be but just... guh. Bucky's all growly at that last bit. *squishes them all and huggles Steph and the little story*]

[identity profile] msrogers.livejournal.com 2012-07-27 02:17 pm (UTC)(link)
[ooc: you mean the bit where this Steph for the worst news ever besides Bucky's death? Sorry @_@ It just popped up in my head one day and it was like "I NEED TO WRITE THIS EVEN THOUGH IT'S SAD" ]

[identity profile] shieldsnotmine.livejournal.com 2012-07-27 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
[ooc: Oh he loved that his girl survived. He got growly that their daughter didn't.]

[identity profile] msrogers.livejournal.com 2012-07-27 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
[ooc: Awww. Yeah this was not a happy idea that popped up @_@]

[identity profile] shieldsnotmine.livejournal.com 2012-07-27 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
[ooc: Oh no. Not at all. *huggles them tons*]

[identity profile] msrogers.livejournal.com 2012-07-27 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
[ooc: It could've been happy. If she never lost Bucky. Or if she never went in the ice. Then Becky and Tony could've grown up together. And Steph would've been reunited with the whole Winter Soldier business. So many ideas!]

[identity profile] shieldsnotmine.livejournal.com 2012-07-27 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
[ooc: Even with Bucky dead the super soldier serum could've preserved the baby too. But yes we have endless ideas. *grins*]

[identity profile] msrogers.livejournal.com 2012-07-27 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
[ooc: That's what I wonder with this AU. Would the serum be enough to preserve the baby through these years? And keep her alive through the defrosting process?]

[identity profile] shieldsnotmine.livejournal.com 2012-07-27 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
[ooc: I think it'd be enough to keep them both alive. Because it wouldn't just be her on ice. She'd need some serious medical after being defrosted but the baby would definitely be fine. Or there could be complications but both would still live. Thanks to the serum.]

[identity profile] msrogers.livejournal.com 2012-07-27 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
[ooc: I might need to rewrite this then. ...hrm...nah, I sort of want to really hurt this verse's Steph. /cough]

[identity profile] shieldsnotmine.livejournal.com 2012-07-27 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
[ooc: Yeah I'm not so much on hurting them since Becky is their little girl. *pets them tons* So we could do both verses. One with Bucky being 'dead'. Or well... y'know. What we've got going on with the Winter Soldier which would go with this story. And then do another that keeps their little girl alive. But up to you though hun.]

[identity profile] msrogers.livejournal.com 2012-07-27 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
[ooc: oh my gosh so many options...this originally just a one shot and i didn't expect anyone to see it. Ahem. I think I've got an idea if you're interested in playing something like this out?]

[identity profile] shieldsnotmine.livejournal.com 2012-07-27 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
[ooc: You should've known I'd see it since Becky was their little girl on the kid meme thing you did. lol And I say lets go for it.]</small.

[identity profile] msrogers.livejournal.com 2012-07-27 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
[ooc: TBH, I was scrambling for a name and picked the Bucky/Steph child from the meme. And here you go (http://msrogers.livejournal.com/15222.html)]

[identity profile] shieldsnotmine.livejournal.com 2012-07-27 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
[ooc: Which is what caught my attention. lol Cause my brain was all 'Awww. Hey! Poor Steph. Poor dead Bucky too.']

Good post. I be taught something more challenging on completely different blogs everyday. It should all the time be stimulating to read content from other writers and practice just a little one thing from their store. I’d desire to use some with the content on my blog whether you don’t mind. Natually I’ll give you a link in your internet blog. Thanks for sharing. http://onesmilefact.blogspot.com/
