Who's strong and bra--what war?

Stephanie Barnes hummed to herself as she made her way home from the grocery store. It was nice that Bucky had to go to a conference for a little bit, it let her catch up on things like the cleaning and the shopping, her paintings. What a wonderfully normal day.

She greeted their neighbors as she passed by with a smile. She actually was healthier now as an adult than she was as a child.

"Something like that. I kind of want to make a name for myself so you know...big city. And no. Not yet. I'm...uh...I'm looking, though."

And she was. Kind of. Just...more like looking for a way home. "What about the Second War...? Didn't it just end?"

She laughed politely. "Second war?" she asked. "I hear there's some trouble for a short time but that got nipped in the bud real fast."

"I...I guess my parents greatly exaggerated the situation..." No war...No...War...it was...she couldn't...no war. That was crazy.

"Sounds like it. Are you okay? You look a little spooked.."

"I guess I'm just still adjusting...it's a big culture shock from where I'm from."

"Really? Where are you from?" she asked, more nad more curious about this girl before her. "You know, there's something familiar about you."

Crap. She couldn't very well say New York, could she...she needed someplace away from the city...someplace...rural? "Iowa."

"Oh? Is there?"

"Iowa? You're a fair bit away from home, then."

Steph looked at her carefully. "Yeah. You do. Your name wouldn't happen to be Rebecca, would it?"

"A bit."

She shook her head. "Sarah. Sorry."

Steph felt at ease around the yuong girl and picked up her groceries to put them away. "Sarah's such a nice name. My mom's name was Sarah."

"It's my grandmother's name. Guess it was a fairly common name back then." She didn't think she was being
TOO obvious...Sarah WAS a fairly common name.

"Yeah, I guess it is. Well, Sarah, I don't know if you need to be anywhere, but you're free to use our phone and stay for dinner. It's just going to be me tonight, I'm afraid. My husband's off on the road for a few days," she laughed.

"Dinner sounds great...if you don't mind." She leaned back against the wall, knowing her posture was probably horrendous for a time when teenagers actually ironed their clothes."You're married? What's your husband do?"

"Bucky's an engineer. He's real good with his hands and somehow managed to get a position at Stark Industries, actually," she smiled, proud of her man. Steph picked up their wedding photo off their mantle and held it up to her.

"What can I say? I'm so lucky the jerk I married turned out to be a real stand up guy."

Well, at least her parents were still together. That was a good sign. "How did you two meet?"

"Childhood sweethearts. He was my knight in shining armor since forever,.it feels."

"That's adorable." It was. As much as Sarah teased her parents...she loved their relationship. It was perfect, really...except the whole war thing. But here...here it seemed just nice, simple.

"Any plans for kids?"

"We're trying. We're kind of hoping for a girl to spoil," Steph smiled. "How about you? Got a sweetheart?"

"Oh...no. No no no...not even close."

"No? Oh come on, there's got to be someone you're sweet on. I can tell you right now, I may have snatched up the very last decent guy in Brooklyn, at least," Steph laughed as she busied herself with cooking dinner.

"I...I haven't really had time for a boy...I mean I had this thing going on at home...this kind of hobby...it took up all my time.."

"Oh? What is it?" she asked as she began to put together dinner. "Are you allergic to anything?"

"Uhhh...it's kind of weird. And hard to explain." She hops up to sit on a counter, watching. "Nope. Not that I know of."

She laughed kindly. "I've got time, honey. I'm not exactly a go out and dance sort of gal. Come on, lay it on me."

"Well..." She pauses, thinking. Problem is...she really didn't know how to explain it. "I guess...you could kind of...it's a sort of crime fighting."
