Stephanie Barnes hummed to herself as she made her way home from the grocery store. It was nice that Bucky had to go to a conference for a little bit, it let her catch up on things like the cleaning and the shopping, her paintings. What a wonderfully normal day.

She greeted their neighbors as she passed by with a smile. She actually was healthier now as an adult than she was as a child.

"That's adorable." It was. As much as Sarah teased her parents...she loved their relationship. It was perfect, really...except the whole war thing. But here...here it seemed just nice, simple.

"Any plans for kids?"

"We're trying. We're kind of hoping for a girl to spoil," Steph smiled. "How about you? Got a sweetheart?"

"Oh...no. No no no...not even close."

"No? Oh come on, there's got to be someone you're sweet on. I can tell you right now, I may have snatched up the very last decent guy in Brooklyn, at least," Steph laughed as she busied herself with cooking dinner.

"I...I haven't really had time for a boy...I mean I had this thing going on at home...this kind of hobby...it took up all my time.."

"Oh? What is it?" she asked as she began to put together dinner. "Are you allergic to anything?"

"Uhhh...it's kind of weird. And hard to explain." She hops up to sit on a counter, watching. "Nope. Not that I know of."

She laughed kindly. "I've got time, honey. I'm not exactly a go out and dance sort of gal. Come on, lay it on me."

"Well..." She pauses, thinking. Problem is...she really didn't know how to explain it. "I guess...you could kind of...it's a sort of crime fighting."

"Crime fighting? Do they allow the gals to do that where you're from?" she asked, slightly suspicious.

"Sometimes...doesn't mean my folks would like to hear *I* was doing it. It's kind of a secret hobby."

She set down the knife from where she was chopping up a tomato. "Oh sweetheart, that's kind of dangerous. Is that why you're here? Crime in Brooklyn's different from crime elsewhere."

"I know...I do...but I can handle."

"Are you sure?"

"As much as I can be. Yeah. I won't really know for sure til I put it to the test, unfortunately."

That got her worried. "Honey, are you...some part of a government thing?" she asked carefully.

"Me? No...definitely not." She shakes her head before hesitating. Should she....?

"My mom was, though."

Klaxons fired off in her head. "Miss, are you...?"

"Am I what?"

Well, what was the polite way of asking? "Do you have a condition, sweetheart?"

"Like am I crazy or like am I a mutant? Cause I've used condition for both. I have a friend...love her to pieces...but she's batshit insane...bipolar to the extreme...we refer to that as her 'condition'. I'm neither, though. My mom worked for the military."

A small sigh of relief. "Well that's not all that unheard of. Just because your mom's been in the military doesn't mean you need to jump right in and fight with the boys."

She shrugged. "Mom and Dad are both kind of big heroes...so yeah...I do."

Her eyebrows reached her hairline. "Heroes? Who are they?"
